A little background to our Winemakers' Selection releases ...
Beginning in 2012 our winemakers were given the challenge to review the various parcels of fruit as they came in from harvest to seek out particular selections that they would then apply their specific skills to, with the aim of delivering a wine worthy of joining our range of premium releases.
Predominately Reds … Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and an early Shiraz/Marsanne blend … plus a one-off aged Marsanne, the last release under this label was a second Shiraz/Marsanne blend from the 2020 vintage.
The Winemakers’ Selection label has been resurrected for this, what some might say is a somewhat left-field, ‘Solera’ Marsanne.
Generally applied to fortified wines, the ’solera’ system blends of wines of different ages and vintages, and aims to mature wines to achieve a steady supply of wine of comparable and consistent quality.
For this unique release the winemaking team parcelled and set aside fruit across a number of vintages with the view to present a solera-style, multi-vintage offering with the focus on achieving a wine of full flavour and character.
The final result saw a blending of Marsanne from the 2014, 2016 and 2017 vintages, along with a dash of 2013 Chardonnay, delivering a deliciously rich and textural wine that resonates with notes of citrus, honeysuckle and ginger characters.
Time remains on its side with appropriate cellaring out to 2025/2026, but current enjoyment also beckons very hard!
