Sunday Sips Spotlight: Claire O’Connell

Sunday Sips Spotlight: Claire O’Connell – A Voice from the Heart of the King Valley

For Sunday Sips in May, we're thrilled to welcome Claire O’Connell, a soulful singer-songwriter whose music resonates deeply with the landscapes and stories of North East Victoria. With over two decades of experience, Claire brings a blend of acoustic, jazz, pop, soul, and contemporary tunes that perfectly complement our serene winery setting.

A Journey Grounded in Music

Claire's musical voyage began at the tender age of five in the picturesque King Valley. Her passion led her to the national stage, securing a spot in the top 50 of Australian Idol at eighteen. This achievement propelled her into Melbourne's vibrant music scene, where she honed her craft through open mics, busking, and collaborations. Her adventures didn't stop there; Claire took her talents overseas, performing in pubs across London and Scotland, enriching her musical tapestry with diverse influences.

Returning Home: Music with Purpose

In 2013, Claire returned to her roots, establishing Claire & Co Music. Since then, she's been a staple in the local music circuit, gracing events at Brown Brothers Winery, Rutherglen Winery Walkabout, and various council functions. Her performances are known for their heartfelt delivery and connection to the community.

Claire's songwriting is deeply personal and reflective. Her debut album, inspired by the 2019–2020 bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, offers a poignant look into resilience and hope. Her second album, That Woman Is Me, delves into her personal experiences, showcasing her growth as an artist and individual.

Educator and Community Advocate

Beyond the stage, Claire is a dedicated vocal coach, offering lessons that empower students to find their unique voices. Her commitment to nurturing talent and fostering community spirit is evident in her involvement with Arts Rutherglen, where she collaborates to bring more musical events to the region.
