This very old and rare Tawny was carefully nurtured at Tahbilk from 1992 to 2004, on behalf of Seabrook Wine Merchants who had originally purchased from premium Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale wineries with the intent to mature, blend and release. Ultimately moved to Yering Station in the Yarra Valley the barrels came up for sale in 2020. Knowing the rare quality of the fortified wine, now over 80 years old, we did not hesitate in acquiring all ten barrels.
Deep amber colour is the first indication of great age. The bouquet is of marinated Christmas cake fruits; dates and figs. The palate is rich and long, long, long. Nutty rancio characters dominate backed up by the figs and dates, then at the end a hint of green tea cleans the palate to that long, dry finish. Exquisite!
