Vintage 2022The season started off slowly, summer was cool and the rainfall was low in the lead up.A windy spring certainly disrupted the fruit set, leading to fewer berries per bunch with final yields well down, with some of our blocks by as much as 40%.The harvest itself ticked along at a steady pace, whites progressed nicely, the reds ripening well and then everything ripened up at once with lots of juggling between whites, rose and red ferments. With the low yields and challenges of this harvest there is much anticipation around the final release of our 2022 vintage Estate whites and reds. And the final verdict on Vintage 2022? This Estate Shiraz sets a high bar for richness and complexity. Bright and expressive spice and savoury notes swirl deliciously through a deeply flavoured dark plum and berry fruits palate supported by supple, chewy tannins.
The stellar rated 2021 vintage has delivered a Cabernet Sauvignon where it is the richness of fruit that resonates. Deep cassis, mint and dark plum aromas and flavours are nuanced with bay leaf, black olive and clove notes.
To the classic Bordeaux blending of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the winemaking team at Tahbilk have added an Aussie element introducing a dash of Shiraz. The result is a flavoursome and sinuous wine that resonates with notes of mint, herbs and spices on a fleshy dark fruits palate alive with plummy undertones and a hint of warm earthiness.
From a vintage that delivered very good to outstanding wines, the fruit intensity of our 2024 Marsanne is signature to this unique Estate varietal. Lifted citrus and tropical fruits are framed by a bright minerality with delicious toast and honeysuckle richness undoubtedly coming with age ... if you have the willpower to resist its absolute enjoyment right now!
