THE '1927 VINES' STORY ...
These limited release wines are produced from the Estate’s 1927 planted Marsanne vines – some of the oldest in the world.
The fruit is harvested early at high natural acid levels. No chemicals are added and the juice then becomes fully oxidised. The clean juice is fermented at 11° to 15°C with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, flavourless and with high acid. The wine is bottled and then the magic happens.
“It evolves into a wonderful, textural, mineral wine ... it’s a classic ugly duckling to beautiful swan story. The beauty of making the wine this way is that it develops in the bottle very slowly and has long term cellaring potential.” Alister Purbrick |Winemaker & 4th Generation
Beginning with the first dedicated ‘1927 Vines’ Marsanne release from the 1998 vintage recognition of the impressive character and complexity of these wines continues to grow from both wine writers and critics through to Wine Show judges with the Trophy and Medal tally increasing year on year.
Enjoy Now to 2040+
With six years in the bottle prior to release in 2021, time has only just begun to weave its magic with this ‘1927 Vines’ release. Vivacious ginger spice, lemon curd, and hints of honeysuckle grace a palate of searingly intense citrus and tropical fruits braced by a prodigious mineral-edged acid line that will carry this wine well into the future with further character and complexity still to be realised.
Don't Take Our Word For It ...
"The power and drive this has is remarkable, for it is also an exercise in purity and delicacy, fruity and savoury, honeysuckle and spice. Marsanne has reached a sweet spot in this wine, the length of its future anyone's guess. Trophy Best White Wine of Perth Wine Show '22. A grossly underrated variety."
James Halliday | The Australian | March 2023
"A special limited release wine, this Trophy-winner is just beginning its magical journey and is remarkably youthful, pale and bright in colour with sea salt, nashi, macadamia and beeswax aromas. Palate is still so primary with layers of lemon, lime, grapefruit and honeysuckle, pristine purity and silken texture, mouth-watering acidity and sensational harmony. Ageless!"

"1927 Vines was an epiphany, inspired by the beauty that comes to bottle-aged Hunter semillon.
A steely, pure backbone of clean acidity is the vehicle for the grape's underrated versatility and charm. Honeysuckle, apple blossom, white peach, honeycomb and hay mingle in the glass. Six years old and still fresh, it tingles on the palate with lemon zest, grapefruit and dusty apple brightness.
Texture is developing and the long, apricot nut finish is something that stays with you. Still a pup."
