2014 Rutherglen Wine Show ~ The Good Food & Wine Show Perpetual Trophy Best Australian Dry White

“Marsanne has many things in common with Semillon: fragrant and lively in its youth, transforming itself with time in the bottle to rich complexity, acidity one constant, the need for a screwcap the other. Here Meyer lemon, a whisper of honeysuckle a promise of things to come. 92 Points

'Good Food & Wine Show' Trophy - Best Australian Dry White Table Wine
2014 Rutherglen Wine Show
Judges Comments: "A great wine. Balanced texture. Purity of fruit, subtle phenolics & integrated acidity."

“Beautifully balanced, youthful yet complex tropical fruit bouquet and a well-constructed palate showing good fruit drive with balancing acidity and a lovely long lingering finish. Four Stars
Winestate Magazine ~ Best Wines of 2015

“Get ready to say hello to pineapple and lemon gelato in a bottle. One of the most underrated and best value white wines around.”
Jane Thomson ~ Taste Magazine

100 Best Australian Wines - 2015/2016
“The Marsanne Lords of the Universe have kindly given us yet another wine to marvel at and no doubt it will taste as enthralling as it does today for the next twenty years because this is
what this wine is undoubtedly able to achieve. I will never forget tasting some of the Purbrick family’s ancient Marsannes and coming to the conclusion that they are the most underrated, inexpensive, white wines in Australia.
Well, nothing has changed because this 2014 is spellbinding. There are hints of waxiness, but the main thrust is one of pineapple husk and lemon zest and the acid is so intense and invigorating I felt as if I had been electrocuted.”
Matthew Dukes – www.matthewjukes.com
(Regarded as one of the world’s leading wine experts, Matthew has the most keenly followed wine column in the UK.)

“The 2014 Marsanne displays beautiful white blossom and white peach aromas with acacia honey and lemon curd in the undercurrent. The palate gives a good amount of peachy, citrus-laced flavours with a light body, just enough acidity and a medium to long finish.”
Lisa Perotti-Brown – eRobertParker.com

“This has an intense aroma of lemon acid drops, with a herbal note, and the palate soft and fruity, round and near-dry, fresh and vital with finishing softness and the impression of a trace of sweetness. A user-friendly wine of wide appeal. 90 Points

“A historic wine type from Nagambie Lakes, Victoria. It has fresh, clean aromas of lemon, stone fruits and heathland ahead of pure varietal flavours of good intensity and length with a zest finish. Ageing? Drink over five years plus. Food ideas: Shellfish; smoked trout”
Ralph Kyte-Powell – The Age epicure

“Another consistently enjoyable good-value wine from Central Victoria, this shows lemon, honeysuckle, and spice characters with a crisp mineral finish. It goes well with seafood or lighter chicken dishes now but will age and develop more concentrated honeysuckle and marmalade characters with five years or more in the bottle.”
Mike Frost – Brisbane Courier Mail

“Tahbilk, the Purbrick family’s lovely old property on an anabranch of the Goulburn River, established Marsanne long before Rhone Valley varieties became fashionable in Australia. Tahbilk Marsanne drinks well and it takes on a golden, honeyed richness with age. The introduction of a screw cap from 2002 and a brightening of the fruit character in the past decade make it bright and lovely for current drinking and a safer cellaring bet than ever. The 2014 offers distinctive citrus and passion-fruit like flavours and a distinctive, full, dry palate.”
Chris Shanahan – Sunday Canberra Times

“A summer mainstay for those who have got to know this gorgeous variety as it transfers from a spritely youngster to a more matured cellared gem. Florals, lemons, white stone fruits all sing in harmony with youthful acidity and minerality, adding tingle, seasonal refreshment, and delicious food kinship. Food: Chinese pork belly”
Tony Love – Sydney Daily Telegraph

“Year in, year out this is one of the most reliable sub $20 wines on offer, largely because a lot of wine lovers are not sure of what Marsanne is. This white wine grape is from the northern Rhone region of France but Tahbilk has some of the oldest vines in the world dating back to 1927. Low in alcohol, this release under a new-look label is fruity and minerally but will mature for several years when honeysuckle and marmalade characters develop.”
Windsor Dobbin – Launceston Sunday Examiner

“A cracker of a summer drop – lean, fresh and citrusy with background hints of the honeyed gem it will become if put away in a dark place for a few years. If you can’t do that, try it now with tempura flathead, sushi or soy and ginger flavours of Cantonese shellfish and dumplings.”
Graeme Phillips – Hobart Mercury
