2017 Rutherglen Wine Show ~  The Rutherglen Wineshow Trophy for Best Australian Dry White Table Wine, Other Varieties

11.0% Alcohol ~ Screw Cap Closure ~ Enjoy Now to 2042+

Commencing with the inaugural Trophy and Gold Medal winning 1998 vintage, Tahbilk ‘1927 Vines’ Marsanne releases have impressed Wine Show judges and connoisseurs around the world building an enviable reputation as wines of great character and complexity.
The 2011 release is steely and impressive, with citrus, ginger spices and touches of honeysuckle initially engaging on the nose. The palate is spotless, with mineral, lime citrus and tropical fruit notes, its acid line precise and supportive.
It is all about complexity with this wine, which will be taken to to another level if allowed a lengthy cellaring.

“This has an extra degree of complexity and concentration from vine age, extra years in the bottle and the cool vintage. It’s wonderfully fresh and delicate, with citrus, apple and honeysuckle all on the same page. Sometimes the acid can be too obvious for some, but not here.”

There is no doubting the significance of Marsanne to the Tahbilk story.
We have the largest single holding of the varietal in the world; it has been planted on the Estate since our earliest days with ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings sourced from St Hubert’s Vineyard in the Yarra Valley in the 1860s that were in fact Marsanne, and we still have surviving plantings from 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world ... and is from these plantings that we craft our icon '1927 Vines' Marsanne releases.

The fruit for these limited-release wines is harvested early at high natural acid levels, fermented with no addition of chemicals, with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, with high acid and, in essence, flavourless.
The wine is then bottled and the magic happens as it develops slowly over time to reveal the beauty that lies hidden inside.
