There is no doubting the significance of Marsanne to the Tahbilk story.
We have the largest single holding of the varietal in the world; it has been planted on the Estate since our earliest days with ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings sourced from St Hubert’s Vineyard in the Yarra Valley in the 1860s that were in fact Marsanne, and we still have surviving plantings from 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world ... and is from these plantings that we craft our icon '1927 Vines' Marsanne releases.
The fruit for these limited-release wines is harvested early at high natural acid levels, fermented with no addition of chemicals, with the resultant wine ‘water’ white, with high acid and, in essence, flavourless.
The wine is then bottled and the magic happens as it develops slowly over time to reveal the beauty that lies hidden inside.
